Survives fire and bend tests
JerryRigEverything’s Zack Nelson published OnePlus 8 Pro durability tests and teardown. Though scratches on the screen appear at level 6 of the Moh scale, Nelson’s durability testing shows the phone survives the fire and bend test, well. He describes in teardown the OnePlus 8 Pro insides as the ‘best looking phone guts’ seen so far. With rubber rings for ingress protection seen all over, the OnePlus 8 Pro is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance too.
Survives damages, scratches and recovers white burn marks soon
Beginning with durability, the phone is scratched at level 6 on the Moh scale with deeper groves at the 7th level. Nelson’s attempts to damage earpiece went unsuccessful, sticking solidly in place. The sides of metal scratch easily with a sharpie. Rubber rings are there on the SIM-tray and USB Type-C charging port, and the fingerprint scanner works fine even after scratches. The phone OnePlus 8 Pro also clears the fire test. It gets a white burn mark after 30 seconds of continuous flame exposed to it but also recovers in a short time, ultimately. Lastly, the phone curves a bit during the bend test, but it survives without any damages or cracks or clinks to it.
Best-looking phone guts, battery removes easily
Moving on to the teardown, Zack Nelson has used heat and sharp metal knife to remove the back panel. About the internals, he has described them as quite neat, ‘the best-looking phone guts seen in a while.’ The wireless copper charger stands out first with large circular windings, managing 30W charging capacity. The battery indicates easy repairability and removed without efforts. The primary 48mp big sensor and the 8mp depth sensor comes with optical image stabilization.
