Amazon has launched a special service.
Commerce giant Amazon India today launched Amazon Flex, where college students, food delivery executives, service sector staff or security guards can sign up and deliver goods for the company. This is the seventh country globally where Amazon has introduced this programme, which also improves its last-mile delivery network. The hourly-pay is inclusive of operating costs like fuel. The facility is quite different and service is also different. But that’s quite different.
About the service
Starting with Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, Flex will eventually be taken to the top seven cities this year by Amazon. Started in 2015 in the US, Flex is available in Spain, Japan, Singapore, Germany and the UK.
The Company did a pilot of Flex in these cities with about 1,000 such partners. Company has activated Flex’s app Downloads here, where one can apply and — upon verification and background checks — could start delivering for Amazon on their bikes. Only products that could be carried on a two-wheeler will be assigned to these delivery executives. The Company has enabled in-app video tutorials for these partners to learn, from where they also take multiple tests to assess their understanding of the work.
“The Indian market is complex. We had to customise it to accommodate aspects like cash-on-delivery or attended deliveries, unlike unattended deliveries in other markets. We feel the rates (hourly pay) are very competitive,” said Company VP (Asia customer fulfilment). He said Flex strengthens the overall delivery network and its speed for Amazon. “We can add more delivery slots and, as a result, the customer will get the product faster,” he added.
“We are proud to create opportunities for tens of thousands of individuals to further their earning potential with a flexible work option to be their own boss, create their own schedule and take advantage of Amazon technology to deliver packages,” said Akhil Saxena Vice President – Asia Customer Fulfilment.
Scheme and process of Amazon
The Company will pay Flex partners on a weekly basis directly into their bank accounts. The local arm of the Seattle-based e-tailer recently completed six years in India. The addition of Flex marks the growing list of international programmes and services like Prime, Amazon Music, Audible and Alexa being brought here by Amazon.
