In recent news, it has been found that there are many WhatsApp vulnerabilities that can be the cause of you might be under the attack of Israeli spyware which can be injected by a WhatsApp call.
Company is advising users to update to the latest version to avoid such vulnerabilities and attack. The Israeli company NSO group is behind this attack on android and IOS.
In order to inject the spyware, the users do not need to answer the call only the call has to be made on WhatsApp active account. The call disappears from the call logs which means some users have been fallen victim without knowing.
The vulnerability made the account accessible to hackers for weeks.
“This attack has all the hallmarks of a private company known to work with governments to deliver spyware that reportedly takes over the functions of mobile phone operating systems,” The Financial Times reports WhatsApp as saying. “We have briefed a number of human rights organizations to share the information we can, and to work with them to notify civil society.”
NSO group makes tools and market to the government to fight terrorism and said: “would, or could not, use its technology in its own right to target any person or organization.”
The no. of accounts attacked are unclear.WhatsApp disclosed the issue and rolled out a fix for the issue on 10 May. The messaging platform is urging users to update to the latest version of the app to steer clear of the loophole.
